SIU Board of Trustees approves honorary degree for actress Melissa McCarthy

The SIU Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve a honorary degree for Melissa McCarthy, two-time Emmy Award winner, during today's meeting. McCarthy is a native of Plainfield, Illinois and left SIU Carbondale after two years for New York City to further her fashion studies.

Indian Prairie Unit District 204 Alternative high school programs housed at the Indian Plains building in Aurora are scheduled to move to the district's former Wheatland Elementary School so the aging Indian plains facility can be torn down. Students at Indian Plains alternative high school in Indian Prairie Unit District 204 will move to a former elementary school next year as the district plans to demolish the aging building in which their classes have been held.

County Police Investigate Overturned Semi

Wednesday morning just before 2 the Marshall County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to an overturned semi on US 30, just west of State Road 331. Phillip Tolbert of Plainfield, IL was driving a 2007 Mack Semi truck and told Officer Prater he was trying to avoid a collision with a small white pickup truck that had passed him and was changing back into the driving lane but hadn't completely passed the semi.

Riding the wave that thrust many Democrats and women to victory throughout the state Tuesday night, were Will County Democrats who appear to have won just enough seats on the county board to gain a 14-12 majority. Going into Tuesday's election, Republicans held a 16-10 majority on the board, and had Nancy Schultz Voots as clerk, and Steve Weber as treasurer.

Proposed subdivision on hold near south Naperville

A 110-acre property used as sporting fields and auxiliary structures is the proposed site of a subdivision called Polo Club, but plans appear to be on hold after the builder sent a letter to Naperville asking to delay a public hearing. Fred Harms, Jeff Maxick and Beth Quint live in different subdivisions near the site of a proposed development called Polo Club in south Naperville and they are all voicing concerns about the traffic and safety.
